Recording progressing

So, we had two weeks of intense recording in the rehearsing room. I was hard as chisel - looking for the real takes where everyone plays their best at the same time. Despite this cruel and unforgiving attitude, the two weeks gave us 7 whole songs with all instruments except for vocals and solos. We are being harder on ourselves than The Beatles were during their last albums. What’s being played is what ends up on the album. It feels very rewarding when you get that take and move on.

After the two weeks we had a two week break, and now there will be some polishing and finishing up from my side until we get back to it when Léo gets back from France after the holidays.

The material? Well, if you don’t like it, we don’t like you!

straj me šta će od toga ispast

I mene... A,slušaj...ima je najmanje 3 godine za to izvrtit u glavi. Do sada nije bilo nikakvih razočaranja. Nešto mi govori da on ne može napravit sranje. Možda to moje želje progovaraju iz mene. Ja sam optimist,al sa zadrškom.
Anyway,ono šta je,čini mi se, izgledno jest to da će strukturalno pisme bit više nalik Scarsicku nego recimo TPE1,znači naizgled jednostavnije,fokusiranije,"konkretnije"... Zvučno će bit drugačiji od Scarsicka,i ne vjerujem da će bit onako nabrijan. To su moja predviđanja.
E,da,možda (vrlo vjerojatno) neće bit klasični konceptualni album. Ovo nije moje predviđanje nego je to Daniel reka. isto tako je reka da će album zbog prirode snimanja bit "more jammy".

And so we have commenced recording on the next world of Pain of Salvation. The “real” recording is scheduled to start November 4, but we have already recorded two songs and it sounds great. We have brought the studio to the rehearsing room and record all instruments at once this time - determined to get true and honest takes. That means we all have to be on edge and get it right, and stay 100% in the song while recording. Finally we are catching those naked and trembling emotions that we always miss from the original demo recordings of every album. Musically the album is heading for a spot somewhere between the threatening vibes of Faith no More, the raw energy of Foo Fighters, the soul of Jeff Buckley and the drone of Zeppelin and the Doors. Sound-wise we are talking 1976 on steroids. All with an unbendable core of Pain of Salvation of course

According to Léo on a french webradio yesterday evening, the new album could be released next summer :evil ...and Daniel is seriously considering not making a concept out of it...

Last studio plate, Scarsick, come 2007, are on-going recording of Balstad music palace of a new album released in the summer if all goes according to plan.
- It contains surreal elements and earth tones, it becomes a raw sound but still warm, it will be as 1976 on steroids, it feels new, but has roots in the well-known past, "says Daniel Gildenlöw on the plate and sound.

We played a new (rough and unfinished) track, called Mortar Grind, from our upcoming album as one of the encores, which seemed to be much appreciated by the crowd.

Daniel is working on the new material right now, but it won't be the third part of TPE, that's what he told me a few days ago when we had a talk in Budapest.
he described the new album as a more energetic and also emotional material. I don't know if it means another Scarsick, but it will be more different than the previous ones.

See, I had this idea that we would record the next album in our rehearsing room, as live as possible. So I thought, it might be good to have a control room of sorts, and I asked if there were any small rehearsal room available - and dear Alex showed me an empty one just across the hallway - perfect! Then as we commenced trial recordings it turned out we didn't need a control room - who would want to run between rooms anyway? But I already had the other room, and the first step was taken.

I had a room of my own - I haven't had that since I was in high school, not really. So this would be my work area, but also my own haven...

When I got the room it was a cold little room with white and black walls lined by bright yellow pine boards, and a semi-black linoleum carpet - all lit by two horrible bright industry lamps. You should see it now...

All 60s and 70s style, I painted the pine boards transparent dark brown and put two lovely orange glass lamps up in the ceiling, spreading a soft light over the thick beige wall-to-wall carpet that sits proudly under decorative items such as a Vox AC15 amplifier, an Astrosound vinyl player from the year 2 AD or so, and some cozy sitting chairs in a color that is not really yellow nor green (one of them is a bat-shaped 60s type chair). On my desk I have my MacBook Pro sided by a retro design radio, a stapler from the 70s and a round orange/red lamp that looks pretty much like Mars. On the walls you can spot the occasional Kiss posters from the mid-70s, a big Abbey Road poster (what else?), my beautiful Tanglewood acoustic guitar and my old '79 Fender Stratocaster that I've had since I was ten.

Then Johan Hallgren gave me two large crates of vinyl albums that someone left behind somewhere in the building where he works, and you wouldn't believe it! Half a crate of Jimi Hendrix original vinyls. You also have your old Pink Floyd, Sweet, Small Faces, Hair... you name it. I even found the original Virgin Killer album by Scorpions, the one with the very dubious cover that was banned in most parts of the world and also the album where you'll find Yellow Raven, a song that we've performed live with Pain of Salvation quite a few times.

I love my little den. I light incense and candles, I play old albums on the vinyl player, and I work on music - something that is getting increasingly harder in this over-communicative world. I plug Léo's Gibson Les Paul into my Vox amp and I actually record a song, just like that. The amp is one meter to my right, the vocal booth is one meter to my left, and my small Apogee Duet audio interface is right in front of me. Creativity is at my finger tips again, just like it used to be when I was a kid and had my cassette recorder with dubbing feature. And it makes me happy.

Daniel: "We are starting to get a grasp of the tons of material that I have been working on in my head. My vision is that the next album will be recorded in our rehearsing room, and we have started to prepare ourselves and the rehearsing room for this. The material that I am focusing on for the album at the moment, is some sort of cross breed between the heavy early 70s in the vein of Sabbath/Zeppelin and the dark weirdness of Faith no More/Soundgarden together with a touch of fragile suggestiveness displayed by The Doors/Jeff Buckley. Add some energetic Foo Fighters and you will start to get the picture..."

Sabbath/Zeppelin da, cak i The Doors i Foo Fighters moze.. Jeff Buckley je genijalan! (Ring of Fire sa nekim egipatsko-zepelinskim melodijama, savrseno )
